Observations

  • The sewer line appears to be a clay tile sewer.

  • The majority of the pipe walls show normal aging.

  • Flow through the pipe appears unobstructed for most of the inspection.

  • At approximately the middle portion of the inspection, there is a damaged section where broken clay tile is visible.

  • A section of the pipe wall is missing, creating an opening into the surrounding soil.

  • The damaged area has sharp fractured edges consistent with a broken clay fitting or broken section of clay pipe.

  • No standing water was noted, indicating the line is still maintaining grade.

  • No complete blockage was observed during the inspection.

Assessment

The broken section of clay sewer pipe is a structural defect. Although wastewater is currently able to pass through the pipe, the damaged area allows surrounding soil to enter the sewer and creates the potential for:

  • Future root intrusion

  • Soil infiltration

  • Pipe settlement

  • Continued deterioration

  • Eventual blockage or collapse

Structural defects such as this typically worsen over time and should not be considered a permanent serviceable condition.
